![]() Armor effects for individual Runes apply to both Chest Armor and Head Armor. Runes have different properties based on whether they are inserted into armor, shields, or weapons. However, the reverse isn't true you can't lower an item's cLvl by inserting a lower-level Rune into a socket. Socketing a cLvl 21 rune into a cLvl15 item will increase the item's level to cLvl 21 to match the rune. If your character is below the cLevel of that rune, that character cannot use that rune, nor use any gear item where this rune is in place. Runes have a minimum character level (cLevel). While the runes are easy to obtain, getting a shield with 4 sockets may be challenging: the only non- Paladin shields that can roll 4 sockets are elite Monarch, Ward and Aegis, none of which can drop early in game and all of which require relatively high character levels. When made in shields, the level requirement of Spirit is misleading for every class except Paladins. Lower levelled Wind Druids can also benefit from the skill bonus and Faster Cast Rate, not having Staves or Wands to adequately fill their weapons slot. This is a very popular option when not dual-wielding claws. Creating Spirit in weapons for end-game builds is less common as there are many other better options (such as Heart of the Oak), but it can be constructed in a Phase Blade to help Trapassins increase their Teleport speed when using Enigma and increase their trap damage at the same time. Spirit is very commonly made in swords for low level casters, as its stats outclass practically all other set, unique, and rare items and it is very easily made. It is a Ladder only runeword in Lord of Destruction, but is available for all players in Diablo II: Resurrected. ![]() It is fairly inexpensive considering the +2 to All Skills bonus that comes with it.
